Grant Park

Grant Park is a charming, lively community and is the southern part of one of Winnipeg’s most historic neighbourhoods, Crescentwood. The area serves as a magnet for those seeking convenience and connectivity. Situated within close proximity to downtown Winnipeg and surrounded by major thoroughfares, residents enjoy effortless access to an array of services, entertainment options, and short commutes to work.

REAL ESTATE TRENDS

Homes in Grant Park range in style and age, with the majority of construction occurring from the 1920s to the 1950s. The most common type of dwelling here is a bungalow around 1,000 square feet on a sizable lot. It is also quite common to find post-war era 1.5 to 2-storey homes in the area. The neighborhood primarily consists of single-family detached homes, apartment-style condos, and rental apartments.

Due to the desirability of the area, you will also notice some newer developments, including the subdivision of larger lots and the construction of new homes.

SCHOOLS AND SERVICES

Grant Park is within the Winnipeg School Division’s catchment, offering English, French Dual Track, and French Milieu programs.

Harrow School serves Kindergarten to Grade Six students in English. Children from the area bordered by Poseidon Bay, Taylor Avenue, and Cambridge Street attend Montrose School for Kindergarten to Grade Six, then move on to Grant Park High School for middle and high school.

J. B. Mitchell School is a Kindergarten to Grade Six French Dual Track school serving the entire community. Students continue to École River Heights School for middle years and École Secondaire Kelvin High School.

For French Milieu programs, students can start at École Lavérendrye, proceed to Collège Churchill High School, or attend École Précieux-Sang for elementary, then Collège Louis-Riel for high school under Division Scolaire Franco-Manitobaine (DSFM).

Nearby private schools include St. Mary’s Academy, an all-girls Catholic school for Grades Seven to Twelve, and St. Paul’s High School, an all-boys Catholic school in Tuxedo.

Grant Park is also close to several post-secondary institutions. The University of Winnipeg, the University of Manitoba (Fort Garry and Bannatyne campuses), Canadian Mennonite University, Université de Saint-Boniface, and Red River College Polytech Exchange District Campus are all within a 16-minute drive.

HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS

Grant Park is home to the Pan Am Clinic, a leading provider of sports medicine and physiotherapy services for patients from Manitoba and Northwest Ontario.

The community is also close to four of Winnipeg’s major healthcare providers. Misericordia Health Centre and Riverview Health Centre are only 10 minutes away, while St-Boniface Hospital and the Health Sciences Centre are also a short commute from the area.

SHOPPING

The shopping in Grant Park is impressive. You can explore a wide selection of independent retailers and large chains in and around the Grant Park Shopping Centre, which includes Canadian Tire, Red River Co-Op, Shoppers Drug Mart, Winners, McNally Robinson Booksellers, and various restaurants and services.

Along Taylor Avenue, you'll find Grant Park Festival and Grant Park Pavilions, which feature stores like Sobeys, Walmart, and Dollarama, as well as specialty services and banking options. Another grocery store in the neighborhood is No Frills on Stafford Avenue. Just outside the border is La Grotta Mediterranean Market, a local favorite, at the corner of Taylor Avenue and Waverley Street.

If that wasn’t enough, there are many more retailers a short drive away. The Safeway on Osborne Street in neighboring Lord Roberts or on River Avenue are both just a 10-minute commute. Drive down Grant Avenue to reach the Real Canadian Superstore. Travel along Route 90 to explore stores at the Outlet Collection, Seasons of Tuxedo, Kenaston Common, Kenaston Crossing, Linden Ridge Shopping Centre, Smart Centre Winnipeg Southwest, and Polo Park.

ENTERTAINMENT AND RECREATION

As a smaller community, Grant Park has two parks within its borders. Rooster Town Park, located behind the Pan Am Pool, is home to the Jumpstart Playground, a universally accessible playground for children of all abilities. Carter Park is a smaller green area with play elements.

For a larger outdoor space with more activities, Assiniboine Park is just a 10-minute drive away. This beloved park is the largest in the city and offers numerous attractions, including the Assiniboine Park Zoo, English Garden, Lyric Theatre, Park Café, Children's Garden, the Pavilion, The Leaf, sports fields, and picnic areas.

Grant Park houses the Winnipeg South End United soccer fields on Taylor Avenue, with 15 soccer fields and events for kids aged 4 to 18. Adjacent to this athletic ground is the Charles A. Barbour Arena and the Pan Am Pool, Winnipeg’s premiere aquatic facility hosting local, provincial, national, and international aquatic events.

While there is no community center within Grant Park, two are nearby. Crescentwood Site Community Centre, part of Central Corydon Community Centre, offers a gymnasium, multi-purpose room, Hugo Hall, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, basketball courts, batting cage, outdoor rink, boxing facility, and a splash pad with a playground. Earl Grey Community Centre in Crescentwood includes soccer fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, a wading pool, and an outdoor rink.

Taylor Tennis, located on Taylor Avenue, offers multiple outdoor and indoor courts with memberships and hourly rates.

For fitness enthusiasts, GoodLife Fitness is at Grant Park Shopping Centre, and Orangetheory Fitness is at Grant Park Festival. The Reh-Fit Centre, located just west of Grant Park, was Canada’s first certified fitness facility by the Medical Fitness Association, offering massage, athletic therapy, physiotherapy, nutrition counseling, foot care, hip and knee programs, facility rentals, workshops, and more.
